If you’re a strong reader, and you have a motivated mind but you’re still not getting the grades you want in your English classes, let me get you on a track to success.
You will finish this 2-session program with increased confidence to speak about and justify your thoughts about a literature text.
You will gain a range of possible tools and approaches to reading, analysing and deconstructing meaning of texts.
You will know what to look out for in literature, how to offer reasoning as to why an author might have written in a particular way, and …
you will have a better idea how to explain the alternative possible meanings behind the words on a page.
I’m available to help you with all of the above.
Students, here's what to expect
-
This is a 2 session package, so you will meet twice within the space of a couple of weeks.
I am happy to meet in-person if we live nearby (Katy, TX) but for most, we can meet online via Google Meet.
-
This is not your usual tutoring, this is a way of targeting the small issues that are holding you back from achieving the grades you know you can reach!
We will focus on you and your study habits, as well as what interests you (probably where you’re doing well!) and how to make the subject of English work for you.

I’m a secondary school trained English language and literature teacher. I’m from the UK, so qualified there and started teaching in English schools, but for the most part I have taught 12+ years in international schools in The Netherlands, and the UAE. Now I’m here in the US and my children are studying in Grades 5, 8 and 10.

My aim will be to identify where your strengths are in this subject. Once we know what you’re good at, we can then determine how to boost those skills further and enable you to achieve the grades for analysis and reasoning.
I will help you to learn and practice a toolkit of tips for really reading literature texts closely, and for knowing what to say in your analyses.
I can match excerpts to texts studied at school, and to specific assignments and rubrics.
-
If you pass on this link and information to friends and they are interested, we can work in a group for these 2 sessions. Collaborative study is always a good idea.
However, for the time being, the maximum number of students in a group is 3. This gives each of you the full attention and focus you will need to make progress in this program.
Still have questions? Take a look at these FAQ or reach out to me at any time. If you’re feeling ready, go ahead and register for a workshop.

I am used to teaching critical thinking and in-depth analysis of literary (and nonfiction) texts in varied cultural and linguistic settings, so I understand how much harder it can be to really get to the meaning of a text. I love reading (and creative writing) and am enthused to pass on my tips and tricks for analysing literature, and for knowing how to give reasoning for your arguments.
